Wellcome in the monumental churches of Antwerp! Five churches are laden with Antwerp’s history, and each one with a unique character:
the great gothic Cathedral of Our Lady with its dazzling works by Rubens, the ‘hidden’ St. Anwdre’s church with its popular pulpit, the self-confident baroque St. Charles Borromeo’s church with Rubens’ signature, the celebrated St. James’ church overflowing with marble, the fantasy-rich St. Paul’s church with its unparalleled art treasures.
Each of these invites you to become acquainted with it. You can be sure that you’ll be amazed more than once. Some visitors have become so taken with the grandeur and riches of these churches that they have called them all ‘cathedrals’: Antwerp is a city with five ‘cathedrals’ !
Alongside these great churches you will find many other ecclesiastical monuments and institutions, as for instance some smaller historical chapels like:
St. Ann's chapel The chapel of Our Lady of Refuge
Entering a sacred space like this church means arriving in another dimension of life; it means becoming aware of the presence of Almighty GOD, the Creator of heaven and earth. Please feel at home in this ‘House of God’, with all your joys and sorrows, complaints and hopes. Remember that you too “are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you!” (1 Cor.3.16).
May these magnificent churches, as 'house of God', inspire yor joy of living too...!
